泰国旧称为“暹罗”,全国分为五个地区,共有77个府,泰国总人口为6千多万人,全国共有30多个民族,泰族为主要民族,其余为老挝族、华族、马来族等。90%以上的民众信仰佛教,泰语为国语。
泰语,属于汉藏语系的一种语言,主要是分布在泰国、老挝、缅甸、越南西北、柬埔寨西北、中国西南、印度东北的傣泰民族使用。泰语的日常生活词汇中,75%是傣-泰语原生词,其他15%为英语借词,尤其是新时期出现的现代科技词汇,几乎全部照搬英语,剩下的10%主要为孟语(高棉语)、缅语等外语借词。
